Florida Attorney General Appointed to Special Olympics Board of Directors
Special Olympics Florida is proud to announce the appointment of Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to its statewide Board of Directors.
As a member of Special Olympics Florida’s Board of Directors, Attorney General Bondi will help oversee the statewide activities of the not-for-profit organization benefiting children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Bondi herself has a family member with special needs.
Bondi’s first act as a Board member was sponsoring a resolution wherein the Florida Cabinet declared March 9, 2011 “Special Olympics Day” in the state of Florida.
Bondi also serves as the Honorary Chair of the annual Florida Law Enforcement Torch Run, benefitting Special Olympics, and will preside over the annual Torch Run Capitol ceremony in Tallahassee on March 31.
“We are greatly honored to have Attorney General Bondi lending her support and voice to the 15,000 athletes of Special Olympics Florida and their families,” said Special Olympics Florida President Monty Castevens, adding “we have a great tradition of Florida’s Attorney Generals supporting Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch Run – her support brings much needed awareness to the population we serve and recognition to those who champion them.”
“Serving on the Special Olympics Board of Directors is uniquely fulfilling to me as my niece, Emma, has Down syndrome,” said Attorney General Bondi. “Children and adults with special needs hold a dear place in my heart, and I am eager to assist in any way possible.”
Pam Bondi is the 37th Attorney General of Florida, elected in November 2010. A graduate of the University of Florida and Stetson Law School, Attorney General Bondi served as a prosecutor for over 18 years. Bondi’s investigative and courtroom experience includes the successful prosecution of numerous first-degree murder cases and two capital cases.
Bondi has served as the Vice Chair of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee, is active with the Tampa Bay United Way and the Children’s Board, and is a member of the Junior League Board of Directors, and the University of Florida Gator Club Board of Directors.
A native of Tampa, Pam Bondi is a fourth generation Floridian and hails from a family dedicated to service, including three generations of educators.
